English For Nursing Services

Speech act theory basically focuses on the ability of speakers and listeners to use language appropriately to convey certain intentions and goals according to the context and situation the language is used in. One of the instruments needed to achieve this ability is the availability of teaching materials that suit the learning needs of students. This English for Nursing Services book was designed and developed based on the results of an analysis of student needs in terms of language focus and content focus as input for study material. Competitive global challenges in the aspect of nursing services are one of the backgrounds as well as the objectives of developing this textbook. With the input of language focus, especially aspects of speech acts, nursing students learn how to speak English in the context and situation of nursing services to patients. Types of speech acts can be found in each unit of the book. It should be noted that the types of speech acts are placed based on the need for their use in the context of communication between nurses and patients in certain nursing activities. Therefore, one type of speech act can be found in more than one unit studied. The light and contextual use of language focus and content focus encourages student interest and enthusiasm to actively implement collaborative and independent learning. It is hoped that at the end of the learning activities nursing students will achieve the ability to use English orally in the context of nursing services to patients.
