This book, Linguistics Approach for ELT, grew out of a longstanding conviction that linguistics does not belong only in abstract theory but at the heart of principled English language teaching in higher education. For many years, linguistics courses in teacher education programs were perceived as distant from classroom realities-full of terminology and formal models, yet offering little support when teachers faced learner errors, curriculum demands, or communicative needs in their own institutions. At the same time, empirical work in phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics, and corpus linguistics has shown that careful language description can provide powerful tools for understanding learner difficulties, designing effective instruction, and engaging critically with the role of English in society.
