Critical Reading Through Javanese Cultures: Fives Strategy-Based Approach

The inspiration for the development of this book was derived from the observation of the low prevalence of critical reading among college students, particularly in the first semesters of their academic careers. Students are typically exposed to a variety of sophisticated academic texts, such as journal articles, reference books, and online materials, at the intersection of secondary and tertiary education. The reading process becomes inefficient and inert without a strategic approach, which ultimately impacts academic success and critical thinking skills. The FIVES strategy, which has been found to be beneficial in the teaching of language and literacy, was selected due to its potential for adaptation to e-readings, which facilitate increased interaction with text through multimedia, hyperlinks, and interactive materials.
