Muhammad Yamin not only changed his political party affiliation several times, he would be quick to jump ship, as when his fellow freedom activists were arrested by the Dutch. Instead, he elected to be a member of the Volksraad (People''''s Council) formed by the Dutch and the People Power Center created by the Japanese.
