The Beam in Our Eye: Discrimination in Church and Diaconia. Is the church a safe place? Some words seem to be so distant from one another. Yet, the United Evangel-ical Mission has opted for such a provocative theme, bringing to the scene the examination of discrimination as experienced in the church and diacon-al environment. Does the church discriminate against? Suppose the church has received the mandate to serve people as the Lord Jesus Christ has served. How can diaconia, as service to the people by the church, become an expression of discrimination, alienation, or violence?
