Sustainable Community-Based Tourism Development: Toward Rural Economic Resilience

This book provides a comprehensive exploration of sustainable community-based tourism (CBT) as a strategic approach to enhancing rural economic resilience. It begins by outlining the global trends in sustainable tourism and the growing opportunity for rural tourism development. The book elaborates on the fundamental concepts of CBT, emphasizing the importance of local community participation, cultural preservation, and identity. It also outlines strategic approaches to developing sustainable CBT and discusses the critical role of tourism management in achieving long-term sustainability. The discussion continues with an in-depth examination of the challenges and solutions related to CBT, such as community capacity, educational gaps, and conflicts among stakeholders. Universities are highlighted as key partners in empowering communities through research, innovation, and collaborative efforts, particularly via the hexa-helix collaboration model. The final sections of the book present detailed case studies, including the development of Grangsil tourism village, which adapted to the COVID-19 pandemic through spatial interventions and business-based housing design innovations.
