Sinopsis
Providing materials for teaching English, especially descriptive reading materials, is necessary to integrate the culture since language and culture cannot be separated. It reveals that teaching English using local culture is one of the most important factors in foreign language instruction. Hence, it is needed for the teachers to adapt or develop the reading materials to present the students with their own local culture in English. Concerning the use of local culture in delivering descriptive reading materials at Vocational High School in the marketing major, students not only learn about the local cultures but also improve their English language skills through learning the reading materials. This is also one of the ways to gain students'''' understanding of the content since it is related to their daily lives, develop and practice the students'''' skills related to their field of study, and promote the culture, especially the local culture of South Sumatera, to others and even the world. Therefore, the need for local culture in the teaching and learning process, which is originally from Prabumulih, South Sumatera, can be effectively utilized as reading material in the EFL classroom.
